This cultivar has been kept pure as a pure Sativa strain from 1975. Originally, this strain was a pure Cannabis sativa strain from Thailand. This sativa grows to be huge, up to 15 feet tall, and the flower-cluster habit is thin, with clusters spread out along the stems. Over the decades this cultivar has been selected for super heavy THC content and less resin production. The end product is deceiving; the buds appear to be thin and of poor quality, but an experienced grower knows that this is the classic growth pattern of pure sativa. The current Cannabis space has many hybrids, and a pure sativa strain is truly a gem to have in your collection.

We have used Thai Kona Gold extensively in our breeding program. Resultant hybrids have potential for super high THC levels and large stature of finished plant phenotype. We have successfully blended Thai Kona Gold with several other cultivars, and one of our most successful hybrids is Thai Black Dog; a delightful melding of a Blackberry hybrid with the Thai Kona Gold.

Heirloom, traditional “Kona Gold” was originally a Northern Mexican “Brick Weed” strain crossed with Thai to increase the potency. Pure Sativa, this very old and traditional strain takes at least 3 months to finish, up to 4 months. If you grow it for 5 months (May first, let’s say) then your plants will be harvest-ready about 6 or 7 months later. This is best for a summer long-season crop where the weather is mild in winter.
